Nome Downtown Repeater
Rptr Trans: 146.94 - 35 watts In Nome, this is the repeater to use. On the the very popular 146.94 channel, with standard -0.6 split, (ie, it receives on 146.34), it covers downtown Nome, as well as the area bounded by the local hills: North to Anvil Mountain, west to the Penny River, and east to Cape Nome. In addition, it has excellent coverage "up the valleys": Nome River, Snake River, etc. The receiver for this site is located at the east end of town, with a good antenna at a decent height. The radio is an Alinco 610 and whatever it hears on the VHF input channel it sends via a link to the UHF hub for further processing. The transmitter is on the west end of town, currently at the Old St. Joseph's historical church, with the antenna on the steeple. It is also an Alinco 610, but in this case whatever it hears on UHF it also retransmits on the VHF side. Because of the site separation, no duplexers are used or needed, and thus the receiver sensitivity is excellent. Both the receive and transmit locations are backed up by batteries. |
