Ham Radio Exams in Nome

Ham Radio Exams are given on the Thursday preceeding the last monday of the month, by appointment only. They are not "walk-in"; if we never set it up, we assume no people want testing and will not be there to give the test. Please call Ramon, 443-2437 for your exam appointment!

These exams are given courtesy the W5YI-VEC organization and to date, over 150 hams have obtained their licenses via the Nome VE team.

Please note that SPARC is not affiliated with these exams, however the Nome VE team works in close cooperation with SPARC.

When making your plans for taking an examination, it is required that you bring with you:

  • A picture I.D.
  • A pencil.
  • A pen.
  • Exam fee of $14.00. We prefer exact change.

We highly recommend that you study from a license guide, and we recommend:

  1. Gordon West's Technician License Guide (Or General or Extra)
  2. ARRL's "Now You are Talking" book.

As a rule, the Gordon West guide is the better one; all the possible test questions are presented in both, but the West guide is better organized with explanations and discussions as well as the right answer given right after each question. But the ARRL book is a nicer textbook narrative.

A good place to get either book is from Amateur Electronics Supply at 1-800-634-6227 in Las Vegas, and they ship by mail.

Please note that as of February 25, 2007, morse code exams are no longer required for any class of ham radio license.

Thanks, from the Nome VE team: AL7X, WL7FZ, KL0CR, WL7MH, KL3NP, KL0HI, AL0U.
